Since moving to Los Angeles, Calif. from Indiana, Scott Gutierrez works with a lot of talent. As a professional, he engineers and produces many different genres of music and has been for just about 2 decades. As a teacher, he issues quality advice about sound to his audio students. He creates a rapport with most of the artists he works with and even has his thumbprint on sound for movies as well. Alan Mason is an engineer and fellow teacher of Gutierrez. Mason credits him by referring to Gutierrez as “legit”.
Beyond his own manipulation of audio, Gutierrez gives back to the industry by providing sound advice. He does this while teaching others his craft at the Los Angeles Recording School in Hollywood. One piece of guidance he wants to pass on to anyone with the desire to be in the sound industry is to listen to the advice of those who have come before. Adding onto his previous comment, Mason says Gutierrez is “old school” as well.
Scott Gutierrez takes pride in the fact that he can draw upon his experiences to lead students into their careers. He utilizes his studio engineering background including Dr. Dre, Tupac, Kiss, Aerosmith and Busta Rhymes to teach his students. He’s also worked on audio for movies, including Evolution Underworld, Spongebob Squarepants and Lion King 1½. His favorite aspect of working with sound is the understanding that he ultimately has control of it. Now he can teach others the proper way to do things.
