The cost of college education in the United States is skyrocketing. Student debt has a crippling effect on both the economy and people. 60% of American jobs will require a college education by 2018. Many of these problems stem from the public education system. Corporate education is driving higher costs for higher learning. These companies also have their hands in primary education though.
The U.S. ranks 36th among nations in education. This is according to the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). The U.S. Department of Education states that American students rank 29th in math, 22nd in science and 20th in reading.
Big business and government are establishing more partnerships as society becomes market centered. As this occurs in public education, it undermines the validity of instruction students receive.
President Obama has implemented his ConnectED program. This allows corporations including Apple, Sprint, AT&T, Verizon and Microsoft to link up with public schools. Bill Gates has spent about $1 billion to influence U.S. public schools.
Big money is buying the futures of American children. Curriculum is being rewritten. Educators see this happening and some are trying to do something about it.
