Animal rights is a significant issue in society, all over the world. Cruelty to animals is wrong and as big of a problem today just as it has been for centuries. Even in places where there are strict laws preventing animal abuse, cruelty still happens all too often. This is a test of human civility, making it an important matter for everyone who lives on this planet.
The issue doesn’t stop with people abusing their pets. Animal rights extend to wrong treatment of animals for the sake of fur, hunting and fishing, veganism, human overpopulation, producing food, testing products and fighting. There may also be a link between those who are cruel to animals and domestic violence. People are on both sides of the animal rights topic while speaking out on behalf of their beliefs.
There is much that can be done to help combat the problem. Caring individuals can adopt a pet. Those who aren’t able to adopt may foster until an owner can be found. People who want to help but can’t foster don’t have to feel wrong about it as they can still donate their time, money, towels, blankets, pillows, etc. to non-kill shelters and/or animal rights organizations such as the Humane Society, ASPCA, Ace of Hearts, Marley’s Mutts and Last Chance Critters. There are other good organizations that protect animals but there are some that do kill the animals such as PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and the city pound. Sharing rescue stories is another good way to help spread awareness.
